What’s your name, age and placement site?

My name is Erik Nelson and I am a 21-year-old member of the Autonomous Youth Council placed at Data You Can Use.

Could you briefly describe what project(s) you have been working on at your placement? 

I’ve been serving on Data You Can Use’s board, where I get to help make decisions on their behalf.

What decisions have you made so far at your placement org? What ideas or suggestions have you contributed to that influenced how something was done? 

So far there’s only been one board meeting at Data You Can Use, and since it was our first, we didn’t contribute much. I’m hoping to do more in future meetings, although there are only four in total.

In what ways has your placement changed how you see yourself as a leader? 

I think this placement has given me more confidence in my myself. It’s almost surreal to think that I am serving on a board of directors at 21. I really appreciate being able to learn the process firsthand, as well. 

How would you describe your overall AYC and placement experience? 

I would describe my AYC and placement experience as very beneficial - not just for my own growth as a young professional, but also for helping me support community.
