Week of the Young Child: How ECE Powers Milwaukee’s Workforce
Early childhood education (ECE) is a powerful tool for families, allowing parents to work while setting their children up for success. But it's also a powerful driver for our economy and a cornerstone of a thriving community. This year during the Week of the Young Child (April 11-17), we’re shining a light on the important role ECE plays in building a brighter future for our city.
Grantmaking Reimagined
The Youth-Led Grantmaking Project puts youth on both sides of the grantmaking process, with teams of young leaders pitching projects that matter to them and a Youth Review Panel scoring their proposals. Ultimately, four youth-centered projects will be chosen, with each receiving a $2,500 grant.
Building a Learning Community Around Get Kids Ready
As Wisconsin prepares for the rollout of Get Kids Ready, child care providers across the state are working to understand what the program means for their classrooms, their families and their day-to-day operations. To help meet that need, we’ve launched the Get Kids Ready community of practice, a biweekly learning space designed to support providers and partners as the program takes shape.
Advocacy and the Future of ECE
This year, Milwaukee’s child care champions helped secure a historic statewide investment in early childhood education. Through community support, data-driven reports and a coordinated media campaign, we helped raise child care to the forefront of the conversation, proving that our voices have power when we speak together.
Activating our Autonomous Youth Council
Milwaukee Succeeds’ Autonomous Youth Council empowers young leaders to shape Milwaukee’s future. Through hands-on placements, training and leadership opportunities, youth are influencing policies, co-leading projects and driving meaningful change across the city.
Uplifting Early Educators
Our innovative Cultivating Strength conference celebrated and supported early educators, centering their professional growth and emotional well-being. Through bilingual sessions and wellness-focused activities, participants gained the skills, confidence and emotional tools to enhance their classrooms.
