Director’s Message: Building the Capacity of our Community
From Vincent Lyles, Executive Director
As we close out 2025, I am filled with pride and gratitude for how far we’ve come. This year, we’ve shown what’s possible when our community joins forces to support children, families and educators.
Across the board, Milwaukee Succeeds continues to drive equity, innovation and systems-level changes. Nowhere was this more apparent than in our statewide advocacy work. With the help of partners across the state, we secured a major budget win that will directly benefit early childhood education, youth mental health and workforce development. These investments show what happens when we listen to families, use data to drive our decisions and focus on what truly matters for Milwaukee’s future.
Our work through the Wisconsin Partnership is now building on this momentum, bringing together four communities to push for statewide advancements. By sharing lessons, aligning strategies and coordinating actions, we’re creating a stronger, more connected system that will ensure every child in Wisconsin has the opportunity to succeed.
This year, we also celebrated the activation of our Autonomous Youth Council, placing youth at eight organizations across the city. Equipped with the skills to influence decisions, these incredible young leaders are already making their mark and paving the way for lasting change.
Another highlight was our bilingual Cultivating Strength conference, which brought together early educators, emerging trainers and mental health experts for a day of learning, support and laughter that transcended language.
Events and programs like these are made possible by our amazing funders, who see the potential in our work and provide the resources to make them a reality. Thanks to a growing number of multi-year investments, we’re moving beyond short-term fixes and into the realm of sustainable, community-led solutions.
Our data team is also leading the way – gathering, analyzing and sharing insights that move Milwaukee forward. Explore their work on our new research page!
I am honored to lead this work alongside our incredible team and partners – and I invite you to join us. Whether you’re a parent, educator, policymaker or community advocate, your voice and partnership matter. Let’s keep building a future where all children can thrive.
